At 5:11 am on 7/24/22, we were dispatched to a house on fire with fire burning on the roof, near Lawrence Ave. and Oliver St. The first unit arrived at 05:13 and reported heavy smoke and confirmed an attic fire. As firefighters attacked the visible fire from the outside, others forced entry into the home and conducted a search for people, but no one was found. Later we discovered all occupants of the home were out of state. As more firefighters arrived, we used an aerial ladder to attack the fire from above and stretched multiple hose lines into the house. Within 30 minutes the fire was under control and we continued to extinguish smoldering areas and protect property with the use of tarps. The incident was investigated, and we believe the cause of the fire was a result of a lightning strike. No injuries were reported from this incident and all units cleared the scene at 8:16 am. We were assisted at the scene by Eaton Area EMS, Benton Township Fire, and EMS Dept., Olivet Fire Department, Charlotte PD, and Eaton County 911.
